The 843H Spindle Roughing Gouge is the workhorse of the woodturner, used to shape square spindle blanks to round or for rough shaping chunks of timber into bowls or spindles.

Roughing gouges have a low, shallow and wide cutting profile. By rotating the angle of the roughing gouge you can cut from various points of the cutting edge.

The 843H Spindle Roughing Gouge is available in two sizes:

• 3/4″ (19mm) – The most popular size in the Sorby Roughing Gouge range.
• 1 1/4″ (32mm) – Choose this Roughing Gouge for large items.

Not suitable for fine work because as its name suggests this tool is for preliminary work.

The 3/4″ roughing gouge has a shaft/flute length of 7″ (178mm) and the handle length is 12″ (300mm). The 1 1/4″ tools has a handle length of 14″ (350mm).
