UKIWS 2017, New Products and more

It has been a couple of weeks since UKIWS 2017 and it was another great weekend. Olivers Woodturning packed up almost the entire shop and used the weekend to launch an exciting new line of products, more on that below.

Since the last newsletter we have added a new section to our website, we now have a range of Project Accessories. You will find a selection of these items listed below.

We value your feedback. Recently a customer let us know of a problem they had using our website on their phone. We looked into it and made changes to eliminate the issue. If you ever have a problem please let us know.

Printed Catalogue is now available

It has taken a while but our widely requested printed catalogue is now available. If you would like a copy sent to you then please get in touch.

We now use DPD couriers

We are switching our courier to DPD. Why? Because they provide a fantastic service that emails our customers a 1 hour time window for their delivery. We think this is a great service that allows you to plan your day better.

In addition, we now offer Saturday and Sunday deliveries.

Event News

Kent International Jamboree

Recently I gave East Hearts Woodturning Association a hand at the Kent International Jamboree where there were some 6000 young people from around the world in their various Cub, Scout and Guide groups.

The East Hearts Woodturning Association had organised a woodturning taster session in the creative craft centre and were struggling to get volunteers to help man the lathes. Unluckily for them, they got me!

It was a pleasure to be involved in this worthwhile endeavour and I thoroughly enjoyed the week, helping youngsters turn some small projects and experience woodturning.

This event is run every 4 years and it will be getting the full support of Olivers Woodturning in 2021.

The 2nd UKIWS show in Coventry went very well over the weekend of the 15th July. The emphasis was on fun and it certainly seemed like everyone had a good time. Plenty of demonstrations and lots of chat. It was great to catch up with our customers at the show again. It is a lot of work to get there but it’s worth it.

New products

These Skeleton Clocks are available in 3 sizes and are finished in Gold or Silver.

Pewter lids for Potpourri pots and other open top containers with an opening of roughly 2 1/2″. The reverse of the lid has 3 small stubs placed around the rim that help maintain its position.

Use a Lazy Susan Bearing set when creating turntables. Packed full of ball bearings to give your rotating creations a smooth action.

Choose from 3″, 4″, 6″ and 12″.

Crushgrind mechanisms in two sizes, 135mm and 195mm.

Unlike other salt and pepper grinders, the Crushgrind does not require the usual top piece retaining stud. The entire mechanism is hidden within your turned shell. The image below shows the grinder on the right. On the left you can see the plastic piece that fits and grips inside the lid piece. With a tight, push fit lid it will not slip off during use.
