Forstner Bits, Long Series Cutters

Long series forstner bits are a quick and simple way to bore out the centre of your work. You may need to do this before using a hollowing tool.

Long Series Forstner Bits Features

• The long series forstner bit range has a minimum length of 150mm (6″). With cutters in a full range of sizes from 3/8″ (9.5mm) up to a massive 4″ (101.6mm).  The range is designed to overlap so if you need to bore out a 4″ hole you can start smaller and work up.

• If you have a woodturning lathe with enough power you can bore a 4″ hole in one cut.  This can generate a lot of heat, so working up from small sizes when boring into green wood might be the better option.

• You can re-sharpen the cutting edge with a diamond hone. Wipe the hone across the flat cutting surface, this is the diagonal face that runs parallel with the shaft. Please do not sharpen the top face of the forstner bit because this will cause the cutter to fail.

• These forstner bits feature a sawtooth pattern, therefore making them suited to cutting down end grain timber.
